In our society alcohol has been part of our regular life. We have drinks with friends. We have champagne to celebrate and we often order drinks with our dinner when we go out. It’s common knowledge that men should only drink two drinks a day and woman only one .
Ask yourself what is normal for drinking alcohol? How much is too much? How much is too often? Alcohol has a lot of calories and sugar. It’s not nice to your liver . In fact most people do not realize what even takes place inside your body when you drink. Your liver is affected the most because it’s job is to clean toxins in the blood and alcohol is one of those toxins. One drink can do little damage but a night of celebrating can take days to recoup. Here is a visual of how alcohol can affect the body.
We all know someone that has a drinking problem. Some of us have been close to a person that has taught us just how bad alcoholism can ruin life and how it can affect loved ones. Our society has allowed us to believe it’s ok to drink and even acceptable to drink a lot . You know those nights when you drink a bottle of wine or six pack all on your own? Not only do you feel lousy the next day but your body is suffering from withdrawals and that is exactly what your hang over is. You are dehydrated and your liver is trying to sort through your blood. The damage to your liver from drinking heavy over and over is substantial. Scaring takes place and even death can occur.
I can tell you all about the science behind alcohol and heavy drinking but instead I’ll let you do your own research because google can give you endless information in that department but instead I’d like to talk about how alcohol affects a relationship, a family, and a child.
If you have been in the shoes of a person that deals with alcohol you have seen that it can be toxic. There can be a very ugly side to alcohol. Let’s start with the child that grows up in an environment with heavy drinking. The child hasn’t learned that alcohol can cause many problems and health issues. He or she sees this drinking as normal. Even as they grow older they never may realize that something is wrong until it is pointed out because they never knew anything else. Alcohol was always a part of their family and it’s all they knew. Now take that child and introduce them to a child that has never seen the trauma of what alcohol can do. See ? Do you see in your mind that living with an alcoholic can be conditioning to an individual. They believe it is just as normal as putting on pants . Where a child that has not been around alcohol would not have the opportunity to learn how alcohol can impact ones life. Lucky them.
A child that has grown up around alcohol will most likely grow up as an adult to believe it’s ok . If their parents drank a lot they may believe that is normal and visa Versa. It’s hard to draw the line on what’s normal. It is not hard to say what is healthy.
Our society for example promotes drinks as a celebration all the while Alcohol is killing people every day. Why ?
Take note of how we are conditioned to believe drinks are normal but smoking weed for example is an outright sin even though now in most states it’s legal. Nobody wants to recognize that or even talk about it yet . I do ! Marijuana is a medicine yet it’s shunned in our society. Alcohol is toxic to your body but again it’s part of our culture. We are left to make our own decisions. We can choose what we put in our body.
As time goes on it will be interesting to see how our society deals with this transition of legalization of marijuana. I hope others see the truth of alcohol and do their own research because our society is not educating about this.
Remember when we didn’t ride in car seats as children? Remember when our parents smoked cough right next to us because they didn’t know any better? Well humans are now more educated about tobacco products and many people quit . Many people see the filthy habit as it is now because we are more educated. I believe that is starting to happen now with alcohol. Let’s spread awareness of how our society should re-educate on alcohol just as they did on tobacco. Spread awareness because it’s killing people. It’s causing sickness and disease and no one unless they are suffering first hand realizes how detrimental alcohol can be.
Educate yourself and educate your children before it’s too late.
